Travel Smart - Packing a Carry on for long haul flights ✈

Over the past several years, we have had the opportunity to travel several international as well as domestic destinations. For us travel is a need and not a want which explains the crazy traveling. I can go on and on about the joys of traveling but i'm pretty sure you are here to know about the main topic so let us get started.


In many air planes today they allow one personal item and one carry on bag. Here is how to choose and pack 'em.

How to choose a carry on suitcase?
There are several available in the market today try to invest in a good brad as it will last a really long time and doesn't damage your stuff in the transit. We buy our luggage in a set which comes with both carry on as well as check in bag.

Here are few points you need to look for while choosing a carry on or just a luggage in general:

• Go for Polycarbonate (it is very light weight) or hard case suitcase which is more durable.
• Spinner 4 wheel is extremely convenient especially for the long airport walks.
• Check for dividers inside it is useful for sorting things in the bag.
• Expandable zipper case for added packing capacity.
• My favorite brands: SwissGear and Ricardo Beverly Hills.

What to pack in Carry on suitcase?

• At least 3 to 4 fresh pairs of outer wears as well as inner wears. 
• Additional gadgets like camera.
• Shoes and socks according to the destination weather.
• A towel and a hand towel.
• Travel size toiletry kit and makeup essentials.
• A Plastic bag/ Laundry bag.
• Optional: A Zip lock bag containing an fresh pair of inner wears and a fresh outer wear to change before hopping on to the connecting flight. I like to do this as it is easy to take it out quickly. Just carry it and with my toiletry kit to the restroom and pack the used clothes back into the zip lock and place it in the carry on!
• According to the destination whether carry a jacket if required, even if your check-in bag is delayed or lost you are still set for the travel. 
• Remember to carry on any item you think is very important. Eg: Visa documents, certificates,  travel guide books etc.

How to choose a personal bag?
In most of the flights they allow a carry on as well as a small personal item. Here are a few tips on how to choose one:

• Try to carry a small back pack which isn't too heavy especially if you want to carry a laptop.
• Try to keep it as compact as possible especially if you are traveling as a tourist.
• My favorite brands: Colombia and SwissGear.

What to pack in personal item?

• Gadgets which includes cellphones, laptop, iPads etc.
• Chargers to all gadgets. I usually put all the chargers in a small pouch.
• Travel Wallet containing all your important docs like passport, license, credit cards and cash. 
• Small notebook and a pen.
• Hand sanitizer 
• Pack of Tissues
• Lip Balm
• Mouth fresher gums
• Water bottle
• House keys and TSA lock keys.
