We visited McConnells Mills state park to hike the Kildoo trail. We got off I-79 and drove along Cheeseman road, past breakneck campground. There is sign board saying that the road closes ahead. As there was no parking available we drove past the sign and came across a parking lot. Either you can park here and walk down to the foot bridge or drive a little further to park near the breakneck bridge. We were told by a fellow hiker that we can driver further down the road to Eckert Bridge. As the roads were bad we decided to walk down to the Eckert Bridge instead.

The Slippery Rock Creek Was roaring in full swing and is rated as Class II-IV for whitewater Rafting. The view was amazing. We crossed the bridge and started our hike towards the Covered Bridge. It is a moderate hike with rocky terrain and little waterfall/ stream crossings. Our hike was dotted with trees on the left and a roaring creek on the right. My husband couldn't ask for a better place for his photography (to my great annoyance). As we reached the covered bridge (which was very charming) we spotted the dam and the mills standing next to it. We took a tour of this old mill. There is a picnic area here with all facilities.

On the way back from the covered bridge we stuck to the west bank of the creek towards the Eckert Bridge. This part of the hike was little less tedious than the first. We crossed the Kildoo Falls here which was really very pretty. We went up the falls easily and waded in the water.
Overall the hike was a 2 miles loop and took about 3 hrs. It is a magnificent trail and a good exercise for us city folks.

Roaring water, Rocky terrain, Green Woods, a charming covered bridge, an old mill and a fun multi-tiered water falls. What else can you ask, for a sunny day outing?

Here are a few glimpses: (Thanks to my hubby)
