We camped at Shawnee State Park during the Memorial day weekend. If you are planning for camping (tent or camper) during holiday weekends, I would highly suggest you to book well ahead of time. It will be almost impossible to get reservation at the last moment. You may need to reserver 2 nights minimum during holiday weekends.
You can make reservations here
The park is easy to locate with the GPS navigation. It is just off the highway 70/ 76

Soon after we entered the campground we checked in at the park office (though it is not required) the staff were very friendly and helpful. They arrange some events and performances during holiday weekend. Its just a added bonus for the whole experience. Check for things to do around the park. There are hiking trails/ biking/ bird-watching/ fishing/ hunting.

There are several camp grounds available. Most of the roads are paved. We camped (tent) at campsite number 245 in F-loop. Every camping sites have a picnic table and a fire ring. The camp grounds are very well kept and clean. It is not densely populated with tree but still gives a little privacy. This was advantageous as we got a chance to meet some really nice people. We are not allowed to bring any firewood from outside. Firewood is available inside the park ($5/ bundle) but when we went they were already sold out. There is a little locally run shop about 1 mile away from the park where you can get firewood, ice and tout for fishing. We bought our fire wood from this shop on both the days. The shopkeeper was extremely kind and friendly and helped us load the wood into the trunk of our car.

There is a lake near by with picnic tables, perfect for BBQ. We saw many people kayaking in the lake, though we are not certain if there is a kayak rental. We went for a short hike on the Lake shore trail. It goes all around the lake and is really a nice walk for all ages. It is shaded with tall trees. Kids will have a gala time.

There are restrooms with flush toilets and showers available. Our campground was near to the shower and restrooms and drinking water. This was very convenient. The toilets are clean and well maintained. Cleaning staff will come for maintenance everyday. The showers are also clean with warm water. The park rangers will always be around and the park feels safe and the noise levels will be kept to minimum during quiet hours (after 10pm). Occasionally you can hear traffic noise as it is right off the highway but this is tolerable.

Over all the Camping experience was absolutely wonderful at Shawnee State Park. If you are first time campers this is the best place to start. If you have camped here or planning to camp and have any questions, leave it in the comments section.

Happy Camping!
